History of the Stagecoach At The Yuba Theatre

In collaboration with the Sierra County Historical Society, the Sierra County Arts Council is pleased to present a history of the stagecoach by historian and re-enactor Lee Dummel. 

A retired law enforcement officer who now lives near Chico in Magalia, Calif.; Dummel has been studying history for about 40 years with a particular fascination with the 1800s. Dummel is a member of Trails West and the Oregon-California Trails Association.

“The stagecoach is the most iconic symbol of the old west along with the Colt revolver,” says Dummel.  From the 1840s to the 1880s; it was the best way to transport passengers, mail and other documents that needed to travel.

The Stagecoach played a significant role in the history of Sierra County as it was essential for transportation in the rugged mountain terrain, especially during the Gold Rush.   The charming 76 yr. old Yuba Theatre in Downieville is the perfect place to enjoy this historical presentation.
