Don't forget you're in the mountains, at elevation (ranging from around 3,000ft for Downieville, 4,200ft for Sierra City, 5500 ft Sierra Valley and 5,500ft+ for the Lakes Basin) and weather is different than in the lower elevations. Weather can change quickly. We can get snow in June, though that's quite rare. But the point is, be prepared when you leave the house for a day of fun and play. And, please make sure to hydrate: high elevation means you need a lot more water. If you don't hydrate one common side effect is a nasty headache-- easily avoided if you drink plenty of water.

Check out the Sierra City webcam for an idea as to the current weather there.

No 35:  THE BEST VIEW EVER!

This 5 mile hike from Packer Lake Saddle heads up to the historic Sierra Buttes Fire Lookout. At 8,591 ft, it has everything from a 360 degree look-out deck with amazing vistas to  some crazy stairs. This is a steep hike and getting to the lookout is not for the faint-of-heart. On a clear day you can even see Mt. Lassen, 100 miles away.
